UUMA PNW Chapter Retreat
Hybrid: in person and online
The Power of Presence in Times of Change
 April 12-15, 2026

Every moment brings change. But when change accelerates, our human capacities for anticipating the future and remembering the past can make it hard to remain grounded in the current moment – present to our bodies and emotions, to one another and to the faith we share. Join us, in person or online, for our chapter’s spring retreat exploring with each other “The Power of Presence in Times of Change.” Guided by colleague Karen Hering, author of Trusting Change: Finding Our Way through Personal and Global Transformation, we’ll consider the dynamics of change and how it becomes more trustworthy when we are fully present to ourselves and our bodies, to one another and to the wider world we serve. We’ll share poetry and powerful questions, personal reflection, embodied practices and conversation with each other. No advance reading or preparation needed, but chapter members who wish to purchase a copy of Trusting Change will receive a discount using the QR code (it will be sent to those who have registered).

Author Karen Hering is a colleague from Minnesota who developed and led a literary ministry for 15 years and has also served as a congregational minister, a chaplain and a threshold guide to people and communities on the cusp of change. She has published two award-winning books, Trusting Change: Finding Our Way through Personal and Global Transformation and Writing to Wake the Soul: Opening the Sacred Conversation Within. She currently leads a weekly tai ji circle at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul and a Substack newsletter/online community, Threshold Times. Her retreat facilitation will also share some of her community’s learnings from this winter’s federal occupation of the Twin Cities. To follow her work online, visit
