Nationally and globally, we have entered into what Francis Weller refers to as The Long Dark, a time of hardship, decline, and falling apart. In times such as these, our capacities for moving into the territory of grief, and for working with our own experience of grief – personal, collective, and planetary – is essential. This is especially true for those charged with spiritual leadership.
Our program for the Spring 2025 Professional Days will be led by grief mentors Cristina Manzoni, Reve Shannon and Peter Jabin, who regularly facilitate weekend-long grief ritual retreats informed by the communal grief practices of the Dagara of Burkina Faso, as brought to the U.S. by Sobonfu and Malidoma Some and adapted by ritualists Francis Weller, Therese Charvet, Laurence Cole, and others.
Our program will be an abridged version of the weekend intensive experience, facilitating a deep dive into each of Weller’s Five Gates of Grief utilizing practices of coherence – chanting, poetry, writing exercises, small and large group sharing, as well as some didactic content. Our time together will culminate in a ritual practice designed to open us into an experience of communal grieving. A parallel online experience is also being planned for those who cannot attend in person.
