Webinar with the Rev. Dr. Deborah J. Pope Lance
Serving Congregations with a History of Clergy Misconduct
Description:
An exploration into the persistent impact of clergy misconduct on congregations, focussed on the unique challenges experienced by ministers and education staff who serve as after-pastors or after-staff.
How to navigate the reactive, confounding interactions typically experienced by after-pastors in congregations with histories of misconduct. How the ministerial relationship provides strategic opportunities for healing past betrayals of trust. How to address the immediate aftermath of misconduct as well as disclosures of old or long secret misconduct. How to address chronic management difficulties in misconducted congregations. How to foster healthy practices. How to support cultural/systemic change. How to reduce the risk of future misconduct. Most importantly, how to serve and survive well.
The webinar includes video lectures, reading, and other activities in a reverse classroom format that allows you complete these on your own time, about <2 hrs per week and seven to nine 75 minute break out sessions. Total time commitment >22 hours (22 Continuing Education credits). One book, When A Congregation is Betrayed, available in Kindle or paperback. Otherwise a Google Drive folder provides all materials. Access to a private Facebook page that includes current and past webinar participants provides opportunities for collegial discussion and support. An optional one-on-one consultation with Deborah is also included.
