This year we are trying something different for our programming: Our Business Meeting, Small Group Deep Check-in, and Odyssey will be offered multi-platform at no cost to online attendees. The zoom link will be sent out to everyone in the Central Midwest Chapter. The remainder of our retreat programming will be offered in-person and the registration fee is $125, plus registrants will be responsible for their meals and lodging expenses. We look forward to you joining us however you can.

Location: We are returning to the Stronghold Center in Oregon, IL. Stronghold allows us to host our retreat at a site that welcomes families with children. You can find more information about Stronghold at their website Stronghold Center - Christian Retreat Centers Oregon, IL. A map of the retreat center is here: New Stronghold Map.pdf. We read all the feedback about housing last year and will not be using Hickory House. That does mean housing is more condensed - plan who you want to room with!

Schedule: The retreat begins in earnest on Tuesday, October 17, at 9:00 am. (Check the FB page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/702527766459253/, for updates). The retreat ends on Thursday, October 19, at 12:00 pm. Typically people who arrive on Monday meet up to go out to dinner together. There is no meal service on Monday and no lunch service on Thursday.

Multi-platform Programming: Zoom links emailed in October, no registration necessary.

Onsite Programming: On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be guided through these two workshops with Dr. Marcia McFee (see descriptions below). In addition, we have two blocks of unstructured time: Tuesday evening after dinner and Wednesday afternoon between lunch and dinner.

Descriptions:

“Metaphoraging: Improvisational Ritualizing for Anywhere, Anytime”
In this experiential workshop, Dr. McFee will offer wisdom from the field of ritual studies that can inform us for the work of ritual artistry in whatever context we inhabit. Theory will be punctuated by practice and experimentation with symbols and “sonettos” (Italian for "little sound or song”).

“Primal Patterns: Rhythms and Rhymes for Rest and Resistance”
In this workshop, Dr. McFee will offer a theory from the field of kinesiology that can help us understand the effects of various rhythms on our bodies, our work, and our relationships. Within this framework, we will reflect on how engaging diverse rhythms expands our repertoire for navigating our ministry contexts. We’ll do this through making rhythm together, discovering various modes for creating energy responses for healing, justice, and peacemaking.

Dr. Marcia McFee is a professor, worship designer, author, preacher and ritual artist. Drawing on a first career in professional dance and musical theater and equipped with a Master's in Theology and a PhD in Ritual Studies and Ethics, she understands the role of any ritual artist as that of creating extraordinary portals through which communities journey together, drawing on the power of the arts for transformation. Dr. McFee has presented at several national UU events and is one of the featured guest experts in the new UU “Worship for Transformation” training videos. Marcia just moved to Kansas City with her spouse, Karen.
